Weston DTC Welcomes and Supports New First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor

(release August 10, 2021)
Hello Weston friends.
It was just a week ago that we expressed our gratitude to First Selectman Chris Spaulding for his service to the Town for more than ten years, the last six on the Board of Selectmen. This was followed by Samantha Nestor being sworn in as First Selectwoman on a sunny Monday morning on the front steps of Town Hall.
Today, we offer our unwavering support to First Selectwoman Nestor as she settles into her second week of this unexpected new role. As a member of the Board of Education (2017), and the Board of Selectmen since 2018, Samantha has both the qualifications and leadership abilities to forge solid working relationships to help guide Weston forward.
Under her leadership, First Selectwoman Nestor and the Board of Selectmen inherit a very full agenda. From the ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 and the Delta variant; to a Town at the crossroads on a number of community-based initiatives—both positive and forward-looking—others contentious in nature; to strengthening the Town’s infrastructure; to new projects in progress including the sidewalks program, the Town Green, Dog Park, and more, the list is a lengthy one.
Governing is hard. Keyboard criticisms on social media are not. Leaders who are able to drown out the noise while remaining approachable, inquisitive, inclusive, and transparent, and who rely on factual information and good analysis, rise to the moment. Samantha possesses these qualities and more.
Along with her successful professional background in marketing, communications and publishing, and a strong sense of community engagement and humor, Samantha brings a unique skill set and energy to the corridors of Town Hall, and the Weston community.
Even as the uncertainty of the pandemic still lingers, Samantha has expressed to the community that her physical office (when possible), and/or virtual door will always be open to hear from Weston residents.
We look forward to working with Samantha in the coming months as the summer winds down and a very busy fall season awaits us.
