We Stand with Minnesota

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the escalating violence in Minneapolis, and in cities across this country caused by the deployment of thousands of masked and heavily armed immigration agents, ICE and Border Patrol personnel.  We are not immune to the atmosphere of fear and intimidation the Trump regime has created and are acutely aware that it raises profound concerns about civil rights, accountability, and public safety. This is not a partisan issue; we should all be alarmed.

Many have asked how they can best help out those on the ground in MN. Here are some options.

MAKE CALLS BEFORE JAN 30th Re: ALL-IMPORTANT DHS FUNDING. It is just as important to thank our MOCs (Members of Congress) for the votes they get right:

a) Call Rep. Himes and thank him for voting against funding DHS without meaningful curbs and checks. You can reach his office here: (202) 225-5541 or (203) 333-6600.

b) The Senate will vote on appropriations this week. Please call our Senators (Blumenthal and Murphy) and thank them for the votes we have been advised they will cast against further funding for DHS without meaningful reforms.  Additional background and contact information  for Senators are here — you can tailor the script to say you understand they will vote against the funding without the meaningful restrictions listed and thank them for doing so.

c) If you know people living in states with Senators who still support funding ICE, please call them and ask them to call those Senators to demand the stop funding DHS until they implement reforms to stop the killings and abuses and hold agents accountable. They can use this calling tool.

You may have seen the Trump Administration offer to remove federal troops in Minnesota in exchange for receiving Minnesota’s voter rolls. They are seeking voter rolls from all the states, including Connecticut. To understand why they want this information, and why it is unprecedented and so dangerous for them to have it, please watch this helpful explainer from voting rights attorney Mark Elias.
